This week I worked on using aperture, light, and Iris Blur in PS to create a dreamy feel and connection to nature. I've been experimenting with different ways to emphasize subjects in a photo. I enjoyed the leading lines assignments as it supported this goal. I prefer shooting with a low aperture and using blur filters to make my subjects pop. I also like to add soft glow and sun beams into photos to highlight important features like my boys playing together in the dirt or exploring new places. I continue to use natural light in my photography either outside or near a window. I find this type of light is the most appealing to me and creates the mood I'm looking for - peaceful and happy. I think that shooting in color and editing color continues to be a struggle for me but I am starting to find consistency and an overall look for my photos. Before this class, I spent a lot of time converting photos to black and white because I didn't like my color editing style. I do agree that color seems to make a stronger connection to those viewing the image. I believe that BW photography certainly has its place and I will always have a love for it. However, I have challenged myself over the last few weeks to mostly edit in color because it is the one thing I really want to improve on. With practice, I've grow in leaps and bounds.
I still don't trust my eyes all the time and I'm constantly surprised how colors change on different computer screens and programs. Saturation really bugs me. I once read about the editing mistakes that beginner photographers make (https://www.clickinmoms.com/blog/8-common-photo-editing-mistakes-avoid/). Last year, after reading this article, I realized I was doing most of these. I've now learned to tone down certain colors and work with the right colors to make your subject stand out. I think managing contrast, saturation, and sharpening is something I want to continue to work on so my images remain both realistic and meaningful.
